Perforated-web steelse ctionshavebeenusedasstructuralmemberssincetheSecondWorldWarinan
attempt toenhancetheflexuralbehaviorwithoutincreasingthecostofthematerial.Nowadays,such
sectionsarewidelyusedinavarietyofgeometriessuitableforvariousloadingconditions.Inthecurrent
study,thefiniteelementmethodisusedtoinvestigatethemajor-axisbucklingcharacteristicsand
associatedbucklingcapacityofaxiallyloadedI-shapedsteelcolumns.Extensivenumericalanalysesare
conducted toevaluatethereductioninbucklingcapacityofcastellatedcolumnsduetoshearand
flexuraldeformations.Obtainedresultsareusedtoidentifyadimensionlessbucklingmodification
factor, Z, andtheassociatedequivalentsectionpropertiesthatcanbeimplementedtoassessthecritical
buckling loadoftheconsideredcolumns.Thestudyconsidersawiderangeofpracticalgeometric
dimensions,aswellas,variouscolumns’endconditions.Asimplifiedprocedureissuggestedtoevaluate
the bucklingcapacityofcastellatedcolumns.Chartsaredevelopedtoenablepractitionerstoreadily
estimate thebucklingloadofsuchatypeofcastellatedcolumnsmoreaccurately.
