در ادﺑﯿﺎت ﻣﺪل ﻫﺎی رﻓﺘﺎری ﻣﺨﺘﻠﻔﯽ ﺟﻬﺖ ﺑﯿﺎن رﻓﺘﺎر ﺧﺎک ﻫﺎی ﻏﯿﺮاﺷﺒﺎع اراﺋﻪ ﺷﺪه اﺳﺖ. ﻣﻔﺎﻫﯿﻢ ﺣﺎﻟﺖ ﺑﺤﺮاﻧﯽ اﺑﺰار ﻣﻔﯿﺪی ﺑﺮای ﺑﯿﺎن رﻓﺘﺎر ﺧﺎک ﻫﺎ اﺳﺖ. ﯾﮑﯽ از ﻣﺪل‬ ‫ﻫﺎی اﻻﺳﺘﻮﭘﻼﺳﺘﯿﮏ راﯾﺞ ﺟﻬﺖ ﭘﯿﺶ ﺑﯿﻨﯽ رﻓﺘﺎر ﺧﺎک ﻫﺎی ﻏﯿﺮاﺷﺒﺎع، ﻣﺪل ﺑﺎرﺳﻠﻮﻧﺎ ﻣﯽ ﺑﺎﺷﺪ ﮐﻪ در ﺳﺎل ۱۹۹۱ ﺗﻮﺳﻂ آﻟﻮﻧﺴﻮ و ﻫﻤﮑﺎران ﺑﺮ اﺳﺎس ﺗﺌﻮری ﭘﻼﺳﺘﯿﺴﯿﺘﻪ اراﺋﻪ‬ ‫ﺷﺪه اﺳﺖ ﮐﻪ ﺷﮑﻞ ﺳﻄﺢ ﺗﺴﻠﯿﻢ آن ﯾﮏ ﺑﯿﻀﻮی ﻣﺎﻧﻨﺪ ﻣﺪل ﮐﻢ ﮐﻠﯽ اﺻﻼح ﺷﺪه ﻣﯽ ﺑﺎﺷﺪ. اﯾﻦ ﺑﯿﻀﯽ ﺑﺮای ﻫﺮ ﺳﻄﺢ ﻣﮑﺶ ﺑﺎﻓﺘﯽ ﻣﺘﻔﺎوت اﺳﺖ. اﯾﻦ ﻣﺪل در واﻗﻊ ﻫﻤﺎن‬ ‫رﺳﯽ و ﻣﺎﺳﻪ ای ﺳﯿﻠﺖ و ﯾﺎ رس دار ﻣﻨﺎﺳﺐ اﺳﺖ. ﺑﺎ اﯾﻦ ﻣﺪل ﻣﻔﺎﻫﯿﻢ اﺳﺎﺳﯽ ﻣﺜﻞ ﮐﺎﻫﺶ ﺣﺠﻢ اﻻﺳﺘﻮﭘﻼﺳﺘﯿﮏ ﺧﺎک در ﺗﺮاﮐﻢ ﻫﻤﺴﺎن، ﺗﻐﯿﯿﺮ در ﺳﻔﺘﯽ و ﻣﻘﺎوﻣﺖ ﺑﺮﺷﯽ ﺑﺎ‬ ‫ﻧﺎﭘﺬﯾﺮ ﻧﺎﺷﯽ از ﺗﻐﯿﯿﺮات درﺟﻪ اﺷﺒﺎع در ﻓﺮاﯾﻨﺪ ﺗﺮ و ﺧﺸﮏ ﺷﺪن دﯾﺪه ﻧﻤﯽ ﺷﻮد. ﻫﻤﭽﻨﯿﻦ در ﺣﻮزه ﺗﻨﺶ ﻫﺎی ﮐﻢ ﺗﺎ ﻣﺘﻮﺳﻂ اﻧﻄﺒﺎق ﺧﻮﺑﯽ ﺑﯿﻦ ﻣﺪل ﺑﺎ رﻓﺘﺎر ﺗﺠﺮﺑﯽ ﻣﺸﺎﻫﺪه‬ ‫ﻣﺪل ﮐﻢ ﮐﻠﯽ اﺻﻼح ﺷﺪه اﺳﺖ ﮐﻪ ﺑﺎ زاوﯾﻪ ﻟﻮد ﺛﺎﺑﺖ و ﺗﺎﺑﻊ ﭘﺘﺎﻧﺴﯿﻞ ﭘﻼﺳﺘﯿﮏ ﻏﯿﺮ واﺑﺴﺘﻪ ﺑﺮای ﺧﺎک ﻫﺎی ﻏﯿﺮاﺷﺒﺎع اراﺋﻪ ﺷﺪه اﺳﺖ. اﯾﻦ ﻣﺪل ﺑﺮای ﺧﺎک ﻫﺎی ﻏﯿﺮاﺷﺒﺎع‬

‫ﺧﻼﺻﻪ‬

‫ﺳﻄﺢ ﻣﮑﺶ و اﻓﺰاﯾﺶ ﺣﺠﻢ اﻻﺳﺘﻮﭘﻼﺳﺘﯿﮏ ﺧﺎک در ﻓﺮاﯾﻨﺪ ﺗﺮ ﺷﺪن ﺑﺮاﺣﺘﯽ ﺗﻮﺻﯿﻒ ﻣﯽ ﺷﻮد اﻣﺎ ﺗﻐﯿﯿﺮ ﺣﺠﻢ ﺑﺮﮔﺸﺖ ﻧﺎﭘﺬﯾﺮ در ﻓﺮاﯾﻨﺪ ﻣﺮﻃﻮب ﺷﺪن و رﻓﺘﺎر ﺑﺮﮔﺸﺖ‬ ‫ﻧﻤﯽ ﺷﻮد ﮐﻪ اﯾﻦ ﻣﺴﺌﻠﻪ ﺑﻪ ﻋﻠﺖ ﻧﺎﻣﻨﺎﺳﺐ ﺑﻮدن ﺷﮑﻞ ﺗﺎﺑﻊ ﺳﻄﺢ ﺗﺴﻠﯿﻢ ﺑﺮﺷﯽ اراﺋﻪ ﺷﺪه، ﻣﯽ ﺑﺎﺷﺪ. در اﯾﻦ ﻣﻘﺎﻟﻪ ﺿﻤﻦ ﻣﻌﺮﻓﯽ ﻣﺪل ﺑﺎرﺳﻠﻮﻧﺎ، ﻧﻮاﻗﺺ آن ﻣﻄﺮح و ﺳﭙﺲ ﺑﻪ‬ ‫ﺗﻮﺳﻌﻪ آن ﭘﺮداﺧﺘﻪ ﺷﺪه اﺳﺖ و ﻧﻬﺎﯾﺘﺎ ﺿﻤﻦ اراﺋﻪ ﻓﺮﻣﻮﻻﺳﯿﻮن ﻣﺪل ﺗﻮﺳﻌﻪ ﯾﺎﻓﺘﻪ، ﺑﺎ ﺗﻮﺟﻪ ﺑﻪ ﺗﻌﺪادی از ﻧﺘﺎﯾﺞ آزﻣﺎﯾﺶ ﻫﺎی ﻣﻮﺟﻮد در ادﺑﯿﺎت، ﻣﺪل ﺗﻮﺳﻌﻪ ﯾﺎﻓﺘﻪ اﻋﺘﺒﺎر ﺑﺨﺸﯽ‬ ‫ً‬ ‫ﮔﺮدﯾﺪه اﺳﺖ.‬

Identification of the Soil–Structure Interaction System Using Earthquake Response Data

This paper demonstrates how system identification techniques can be successfully applied to a soil–structure interaction system using the earthquake response data. The parameters identified are the shear moduli of several near-field soil regions and Young’s moduli of the shell sections of the structure. The soil–structure interaction system is modeled by the finite element method combined with the infinite element formulation for the unbounded layered soil medium. The simulated earthquake responses using the identified parameters are shown to be in excellent agreement with the observed response data. Prediction of the responses is also carried out for a larger earthquake event using the identified parameters as the initial properties in the equivalent linearization procedure. It has been found that the predicted responses are also compared very well with the measured responses.

(Utilization of multimode Love wave dispersion curve inversion for geotechnical site investigation)

Inversion codes based on a modified genetic algorithm (GA) have been developed to invert multimode Love wave dispersion curves. The multimode Love wave dispersion curves were synthesized from the profile representing shear-wave velocity reversal using a full SH (shear horizontal) waveform. In this study, we used a frequency–slowness transform to extract the dispersion curve from the full SH waveform. Dispersion curves overlain in dispersion images were picked manually. These curves were then inverted using the modified GA. To assess the accuracy of the inversion results, differences between the true and inverted shear-wave velocity profile were quantified in terms of shear-wave velocity and thickness errors, ES and EH. Our numerical modeling showed that the inversion of multimode dispersion curves can significantly provide the better assessment of a shear-wave velocity structure, especially with a velocity reversal profile at typical geotechnical site investigations. This approach has been applied on field data acquired at a site in Niigata prefecture, Japan. In these field data, our inversion results show good agreement between the calculated and experimental dispersion curves and accurately detect low velocity layer targets.

This handbook was published in March 2006 by the Federation of Piling Specialists (FPS) to provide guidance on the principles and practical issues that relate to load testing of bearing piles, and thereby to assist informed decisions about testing requirements on construction projects involving piled foundations.

The FPS anticipates that this handbook will be of particular interest to civil or structural engineers with little or no experience of piling who find themselves in the position of specifying load testing requirements on a project involving piled foundations. The target audience for this publication also includes main contractors, management contractors and young piling engineers. Pile load testing provides an opportunity for continuous improvement in foundation design and construction practices, while at the same time fulfilling its traditional role of design validation and routine quality control of the piling works. In order to achieve this improvement, data from pile tests has to be collected and analysed to enable the piling industry, both individually and collectively, to make the best use of resources. To justify its cost to the industry, pile testing must have a value. The magnitude of this value will be increased through a better understanding of the process and its benefits.

In this handbook the Federation of Piling Specialists aims to provide guidance on issues that should be considered to enable better planning, specification and execution of pile tests, thereby increasing the value of the testing process

Over the years, ongoing developments in steel grades, section shapes and driving techniques have led to a wide range of applications for sheet piling. The applications include securing excavations, waterfront structures, foundations, bridge abutments, noise abatement walls, highway structures, cuttings, landfill and contaminated ground enclosures, and flood protection schemes.
The main engineering advantages of sheet pile walls over other types of wall are:
• the extremely favourable ratio of steel cross-section to moment of resistance,
• their suitability for almost all soil types,
• their suitability for use in water,
• the fast progress on site,
• the ability to carry loads immediately,
• the option of extracting and reusing the sections,
• their easy combination with other rolled sections,
• the option of staggered embedment depths,
• the low water permeability, if necessary using sealed interlocks, and
• there is no need for excavations.
Thanks to the aforementioned engineering advantages, plus their functionality, variability and economy, sheet pile walls have become widely acknowledged and frequently used components in civil and structural engineering projects worldwide.
Chapter 2 provides an overview of the most common sections and interlocks. Detailed information about the HSP sections available can be found in the Sheet Piling Handbook published by ThyssenKrupp GfT Bautechnik. This chapter also includes information on the relevant steel properties, the stress-strain behaviour, steel grade designations, suitability for welding and corrosion. The main driving techniques with their advantages and disadvantages are outlined, and publications containing further information are mentioned.

Chapter 3 describes briefly the field and laboratory investigations required when considering the use of sheet piling and includes the characteristic soil parameters from EAU 2004 as a guide. Of course, the publications referred to plus the valid standards and directives must be taken into account. Geotechnics must always take account of the effects of water. Chapter 4 therefore explains the basics of water flows, hydrostatic and hydrodynamic pressures, and hydraulic ground failure.

Chapter 5 deals with earth pressure. Reference is made to the classic earth pressure theory of Coulomb, the calculation of earth pressures according to current recommendations and standards, the consideration of special boundary conditions and earth pressure redistribution. Earth pressure calculations are explained by means of examples.

Chapter 6 first outlines the safety concept according to DIN 1054:2005-01 and EAU 2004, which is based on the partial safety factor concept of Eurocode 7. The special feature in the calculation of sheet pile walls is that the earth pressure can act as both action and resistance. First of all, the engineer chooses the structural system for the sheet pile wall, e.g. sheet pile wall with one row of anchors, fixed in the ground. The required length of the sheet piles, the anchor forces and the actions on the cross-section necessary for the design are then determined from the equilibrium and support conditions. The calculation and design procedure are explained by means of simple examples.

Chapter 7 provides an overview of current types of anchors, e.g. anchor piles, grouted anchors, tie rods and retractable raking piles. The most important methods of analysis are explained using two examples. DIN 1054:2005-01 also requires a serviceability analysis (limit state LS 2). The principal options here are the method using the modulus of subgrade reaction (please refer to the Recommendations of the Committee for Excavations, EAB 2006), and the Finite Element Method (FEM). The latter has in the meantime become firmly established in practice thanks to the availability of ever-better computer programs. The experiences gained with FEM and recommendations for its use in the design of retaining wall structures can be found in chapter 8. An example explains the principal steps entailed in the modelling work and the interpretation of the results.

Chapter 9 deals with dolphins. The choice of section depends not only on the design, but also on the transport and the method of driving the section into the subsoil, the corrosion requirements and, possibly, multiple use considerations. Chapter 10 provides helpful information in this respect. All that remains to be said at this point is that this sheet piling manual can offer only a brief, incomplete insight into the current state of the art regarding the engineering, design and construction of sheet pile walls. Introduction to Geochemical Modeling

Modern geochemistry aims to provide an accurate description of geological processes, and a set of models and quantitative rules that help predict the evolution of geological systems. This work is an introduction to the mathematical methods of geochemical modeling, largely based on examples presented with full solutions. It shows how geochemical problems, dealing with mass balance, equilibrium, fractionation and dynamics and transport in the igneous, sedimentary and oceanic environments, can be reformulated in terms of equations. Its practical approach then leads to simple but efficient methods of solution. This book should help the motivated reader to overcome the formal difficulties of geochemical modeling, and bring state-of-the-art methods within reach of advanced students in geochemistry and geophysics, as well as in physics and chemistry.
